โครงการห้องสมุดเคลื่อนที่ของ กทม.ได้เริ่มดำเนินการมาตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2542 มีรถให้บริการ 7 คัน ปี พ.ศ. 2560 รายงานว่ารอจำหน่าย 2 คัน ชำรุด 1 คัน เหลือ 4 คันออกให้บริการ [1] ซึ่งปัจจุบันไม่ทราบแน่ชัดว่ามีรถห้องสมุดให้บริการกี่คัน
รถห้องสมุดเป็นรถบัส มีที่นั่งอ่านหนังสือภายในรถ และสามารถบรรจุหนังสือได้ราว 1,000 เล่ม [2] เนื่องด้วยเป็นรถขนาดใหญ่จึงมีข้อจำกัดในการเข้าถึงบางพื้นที่
นอกจากนี้รถห้องสมุดมีภาระกิจเพียงให้บริการตามชุมชนหรือโรงเรียนในสังกัด กทม. เท่านั้น และมักจะไปจอดบริเวณสถานที่เดิม และยังมีปัญหาด้านจำนวนให้ออกให้บริการโดยให้บริการเพียงอาทิตย์ละ 4 วัน [3] ซึ่งที่ผ่านมากระแสตอบรับของประชาชนและเยาวชนที่มีต่อรถห้องสมุดค่อนข้างดี ได้รับความสนใจเมื่อเข้าไปจอดตามชุมชน ตามโรงเรียน
ดังนั้น กทม.จะจัดหน่วยรถห้องสมุดเคลื่อนที่เวียนตามชุมชนและโรงเรียนต่างๆ เพื่อนำหนังสือไปให้นักเรียน ลดภาระการเดินทางและเพิ่มความสะดวกให้กับเด็กๆ ได้เข้าถึงแหล่งความรู้ได้ง่ายยิ่งขึ้น
- เพิ่มรถห้องสมุด
- เพิ่มรถห้องสมุดขนาดเล็กให้สามารถเข้าออกได้หลากหลายที่
- ขยายการให้บริการเป็น 7 วัน
- ขยายภารกิจให้บริการหลากหลายพื้นที่เพิ่มเติม เช่น สวนสาธารณะ ลานกีฬา เป็นต้น
- เพิ่มหนังสือนิทาน หนังสือภาพสำหรับเด็ก ให้มากและหลากหลายขึ้น รวมถึงการส่งเสริมกิจกรรมการอ่าน

The BMA has been operating its mobile library program since 1999. As of 2017, among seven library buses, two were discharged, one was out of service, with only four remaining in service [1]. Currently, there is no information as for how many library buses are active.
The library buses feature reading space inside, with capacity of accommodating approximately 1,000 books [2]. Because of their relatively large size, it is difficult for the buses to access certain areas.
Moreover, the objective of library buses is to provide service only for schools or communities under the management of the BMA. The operating days of the buses are also limited to only four days a week [3]. Until now, the response from students and residents towards the library buses are positive, as they attract interest when parked in the proximity of schools or communities.
Therefore, the BMA will provide more library buses to go around schools and communities, to bring books to students, lighten the travelling costs, and facilitate learning for children.
- Provide more library buses
- Add smaller buses to access certain areas more easily
- Extend operating time to 7 days
- Expand scope of service to other areas such as in public parks, sports ground, etc.
