ปัจจุบัน กทม.มีการลงทุนก่อสร้างและเปิดใช้งานอุโมงค์ยักษ์ (เส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง3.5-5 เมตร) แล้ว จำนวนหลายโครงการ และล่าสุดเมื่อมกราคมปี 2565 ที่ผ่านมาพึ่งมีการอนุมัติโครงการเพิ่มเติมจากคณะรัฐมนตรี เช่น โครงการก่อสร้างอุโมงค์ระบายน้ำคลองพระยาราชมนตรี วงเงิน 6,000 ล้านบาท และโครงการก่อสร้างส่วนต่อขยายอุโมงค์ระบายน้ำใต้คลองบางซื่อ วงเงิน 1,700 ล้านบาท

อย่างไรก็ตาม จากสถิติพบว่าในช่วงตลอด 13 ปี กทม.ลงทุนงบประมาณด้านการป้องกันน้ำท่วมและระบบบริหารจัดการน้ำเป็นจำนวนเงินสูงกว่า 7 หมื่นล้าน (งบประมาณสำนักระบายน้ำระหว่างปี 2552-2564 เป็นจำนวน 6.8 หมื่นล้าน) 

กทม. และสำนักการระบายน้ำ ต้องมีการประเมินประสิทธิภาพตลอดจนความคุ้มค่าของโครงการอุโมงค์ระบายน้ำที่ดำเนินการอยู่เดิม และอยู่ระหว่างการก่อสร้าง ตลอดจนทบทวนการออกแบบและผลักดันโครงการในอนาคตถึงความเหมาะสมและความสามารถที่จะรับมือเหตุการณ์น้ำท่วมในพื้นที่ต่าง ๆ ของกทม.

BMA has invested in the construction of and opened many giant tunnels (with the diameter of  3.5 to 5 meters). Most recently in January 2022, additional projects have been approved by the Cabinet, such as the construction of a drainage tunnel for Phraya Rajamontri canal (from Phasi Charoen canal to Sanam Chai canal) with a budget of THB 6 billion and the construction of an extension of the drainage tunnel under Bang Sue canal (from Ratchadaphisek Road to Lat Phrao canal) with a budget of THB 1.7 billion.

However, statistics show that over the past 13 years BMA has also invested more than THB 70 in flood prevention and water management systems (the budget of BMA’s Drainage and Sewerage Office from 2009 to 2021 totals THB 68 billion).

BMA and Drainage and Sewerage Office needs to conduct efficiency and cost-effectiveness assessments of both existing and under-construction drainage tunnels, as well as to review and develop future projects their suitability and capability in handling flood incidents in different areas of Bangkok.
